I heard this song on an album by a Greek singer, Savina Yannatou, and wanted to make my own version. I got through to Greece somehow by calling the number on the CD and they kindly gave me permission to make a cover version even though the lyrics are completely different from the original. The original lyrics are about a love story between a man and a woman. Inspired by the translated title “goddess”, I wrote a story of a kitten and the moon. Bulan is the name of a kitten I found waiting for me when I went to stay in a cottage on Bali. She had got lost a few days before I arrived. She would tumble around after me and often slept on my lap. Bulan is the word for “moon” in Indonesian. The spiritual power of the moon is very strong in Bali. The many layers of the pedal steel guitars are mystic.
